The instructions on my copyedited manuscript say I need to write on the pages in pencil only -- no ink. So I pulled out my pencils -- purchased for, and last used, back in July for the Bar Exam. And the points were all dull. So I went to CVS and bought one of those little pencil sharpeners -- plastic, with a metal blade, you put the pencil in and turn and shavings come out, very low-tech. 93 cents plus tax. And it made me feel like a fourth-grader again. Kind of fun. I remember in elementary school we had a metal pencil sharpener screwed in the wall of every classroom, and the metal covering that collected the shavings would usually be broken off, and so the garbage pail would live under the sharpener and the shavings would all fall in there. It was fun to go up and sharpen your pencil. Didn't take much in fourth grade I guess. Elementary school was fun.
