I don't know how many people are watching this season on DirectTV. Not many, if I go by the number of comments at Television Without Pity. But, gosh, everyone should watch when the season premieres next week on NBC, because it has just been terrific. Tonight's episode, #12 of 13, was stunning. Friday Night Lights, season 1 and now season 3, is the best thing ever. Season 2 was screwy and uneven and not that awesome, but season 3 makes up for it. There are some shows I watch and then feel pretty happy about the TV pilots I've been writing and the stuff I've played around with. And then I watch an episode of Friday Night Lights and realize the ballgame can be played at an entirely different level. (Of course, then I watch an episode of, say, Gary Unmarried and wonder why I should even try to play this sport if this is how success is defined, but that's for another post....) I know no one's going to watch Friday Night Lights next week on NBC. I know it'll probably get pulled before they even air the whole season, and there's no way it's getting a season 4. But in a perfect world it would. In a just world, it would have the highest ratings on TV and win tons of awards. Stunningly awesome television. You should be watching it.
