I saw an Arby's commercial earlier, announcing that now their chicken sandwiches are made with 100% natural chicken. Maybe I heard wrong, but this was the second time I saw it and the second time I came away with the question: "What the heck were they made with before????" Frightening.
I saw the same commercial. My first question was: What is unnatural chicken?

What an incredibly stupid commercial. Now everyone is going to look at the rest of Arby's menu and think . . . 100% roast beef? 100% chicken fingers? Incredible.

I was devastated by this commercial. I don't eat at Arby's much anymore, but during law school it was my preferred fast food place (that and Taco Bueno). Worse yet, I patronized Arby's on the apparently incorrect belief that they used better products than it's competitors. That being said, McDonald's put out similar commercials when it advertised that it's Chicken McNuggets now used 100% white meat chicken--but that was really a no brainer, before that major announcement, biting into a McNugget one could reasonably expect to eat a vein or ground organ meat. More to the point, what does 100% white meat really guarantee other than than the color quality of the food you are consuming. Granted, 'white meat' may have a generally accepted definition in the fast food industry, but who really knows, McDonalds is sneaky. Anyway.

Not that it's a cure-all, but these are some of the reasons I keep kosher.

Arby's has a website devoted to their new chicken: http://www.arbyschickennaturals.com/
It sort of explains it, but not enough to make me want to eat it.

The new Arby's 100% Natural Chicken is done by someone who claims she is Joan Rivers not her Mother, but I think that it could be her Mother as Joan could not have changed that much, and she does resemble Joan.

I actually liked that Arby's was taking initiative and taking the extra crap out of the chicken. But, I'm an Arby's fan.

They say that some fast food businesses inject their chicken filets with a mixture of salt, water and phostphates. The salt enhances flavor, the water makes the filet look larger, and the phosphates allow the water to bond to the meat. I love Wendy's chicken and I don't mind eating McDonald's, but my personal favorite is Hardee's charbroiled chicken. I had one today and it's a natural looking breast, not too big, seasoned and grilled- delicious. I rarely eat at arby's because their selection doesn't really appeal to me... but the chipotle chicken sandwich they advertise looks awfully good.
