Tampa Bay Devil Rays top prospect Delmon Young threw a bat at a minor league umpire yesterday, and he's been suspended indefinitely. Reminiscent of the Roger Clemens-Mike Piazza bat stuff from a few years ago, when Clemens threw a bat in Piazza's direction. I recall thinking that year that dressing up as Roger Clemens for Halloween -- broken bat in hand, basically -- would be fun, although I didn't follow through on it.
In other news, Kaavya Viswanathan's book was recalled from stores today, Rosie O'Donnell was named Meredith Vieira's replacement on "The View," and I've been reading too many Yahoo News stories.
I am so sick of this Kaavya "scandal." It is patently ridiculous to paint McCafferty as anything more than a would-be victim. Please. Before she was some third-tier author, presumably unknown outside of the tween romance-lit circle. Now her name is plastered all over the press. Not bad. And just in time for the release of her third book? That's convenient.
Besides, who is the real villian here? Viswanathan, who internalized a couple dozen phrases, or McCafferty, a thirty-something who has penned two novels for pre-teen girls with titles such as "Sloppy Firsts" and "Second Helpings"? Am I the only one who finds these titles disturbingly inappropriate? I mean, she isn't exactly writing for the Sex and the City crowd.

It was very disappointing when baseball's roulette wheel of payback landed on the ambivalent Shaun Estes. It's fun to imagine how Pedro would've handled avenging Piazza.

I know you are. Just like every other grown child in New England. I never should have left California. The rest of this country is a wasteland. Yes, including Texas and NY.

OK, Hawaii is a nice state too. And I guess Washington and Oregon are acceptable. And Vegas and Tahoe, but those are really just extensions of California, aren't they?

(I think I now have a crush on M.)

If McCafferty is a sex-crazed hack, and Kaavya copied her material from a hack, what does that make Kaavya?

They are both perverted. One is just more up front.

C'mon! They are both perverted. One just adds lying and stealing to her repertoire.

I'm an ideas-man, Michael. I think I proved that with f*ck mountain!
